Hi everyone,
And Welcome Aboard to all of our new subscribers!
We're picking up more and more every day!
First and most important, Janis and I will be
flying up to New Jersey next week and we will be
gone from the 17th to the 23rd. We are going up to
visit with family and friends and also for Janis'
sister's wedding.
The reason I'm
telling you this is because I do not think I will
have access to my e-mail during the time we are up
in New Jersey. My lap top is in the shop for some
much needed extensive repairs and upgrades and I
just checked with them and they tell me it won't
be finished until later next week GRRRR!
So, unless I can
borrow somebody's computer up in New Jersey, I'll
be sort of "incognito" if you know what I mean.
So if you send me
an e-mail with any questions or anything else, I
won't be able to get back to you until we return
on the 23rd.
Okay, I don't want to take up a bunch of your time
with my ramblings, so I'll let you get on with
reading today's edition.

5 Tips to Staying
Focused when Starting Your Home-Based Business

Have you decided
to start a home-based business?
You may be
juggling a full time job, a part time job and
family life.
You know that there are many things you need
to do in order to successfully start your
business and work from home.
How are you going
to fit your business project into your daily
commitments?
It's easy to
become overwhelmed and lose focus. Losing
focus will cause you to take no action. Action
is essential to moving on from where you are
now, to where you want to be.
Here are 5 tips to stay focused on starting
your home based business:
1. Chunk down
If you have a large task to tackle, it is
always easier when you break it down into
smaller components. You'll find it easier to
focus because you won't feel as overwhelmed.
For example, 'Register a business name' can be
broken down into: 'Think of five business name
ideas', 'Find out how to register business
name', 'Get registration form' and so on.
2. Keep a 'to do' list
Once you've broken down major tasks into
smaller ones, make and keep a 'to do' list.
Always keep a notepad and pen with you so that
you can jot down any new ideas as they arise.
3. Schedule your time
Every evening, decide on three to five tasks
on your 'to do' list that you wish to
accomplish the following day. Stay focused on
these tasks and only move on to the next tasks
on your list once these have been completed.
4. Set goals
There is nothing better for staying focused
than setting goals. Visualize exactly where
you want to be in a month, six months and a
year. In a month's time, do you want to have
registered a business name and got all your
equipment set up? In six months time, how many
clients do you want? How much revenue do you
want to generate in a year's time?
5. Learn To Say NO
Be assertive and carve out more time for your
business project. Saying ‘no' to that extra
demand by your boss every once in a while, can
get you home one hour earlier a couple of days
a week. How about cutting back on the amount
of housework that you do? Imagine how you
could channel that extra time into your
business.
If you put these five tips into practice,
you'll definitely find it easier to focus on
and achieve your ultimate goal of working from
home.

How to Cope with the Stress of
Self-Employment

We've all heard
the self-employed entrepreneur boast, "I
went to work in my pajamas today" or "Since
I started working from home, I'm able to
spend more time with my family."
Just as these are all wonderful and true,
there are plenty of reasons for the
self-employed entrepreneur to encounter
terrific amounts of stress. Sometimes more
than if they worked for a high-powered
company.
Aside from the stress of having to find new
clients and new jobs, freelancers often
experience stress because jobs come in
crazy, sporadic bursts. One day your
schedule is almost empty, and the next day
it seems like you can barely keep up.
Deadlines can be overwhelming, and when one
is overwhelmed, productivity plummets. The
brain is no longer focused on creativity and
action, but is scattered and reacting (not
acting.)
When deadlines stack up, here's what to do.
First, reduce
stress by... Stopping.
Sounds a bit
radical, and it's really hard to do. But
just stop. Listen to a great song. Go
outside. Do anything that clears your mind
for ten minutes.
Then Examine The Situation.
There will be
items that need to be done pronto, tasks
that can be done later that day, and a task
or two that can be done later in the week.
Sometimes an assignment will have to be
delayed.
It's hard to
pick up the phone and make the call to say
"I'd like to get a little more time on this
job," but you'll be surprised to find how
pleasantly effective this can be. Many
clients often have no problem with a
moderate delay. Give it a go, and give
yourself one less stress factor.
Next, physically arrange the tasks before
you in this manner.
Yes, in stacks:
1 -- Right Away,
2 -- Later
Today,
3 -- Tomorrow,
4 -- Delay.
You've just begun to take control of the
situation. Even though the work ahead of you
hasn't changed - it is still daunting - you
will have the means and the organization to
manage it.
If the nature of any of your tasks allow it,
call upon a colleague who can help you. If
you've never done this before, now is the
perfect time to start.
This form of
subcontracting will cost you part of your
profits, true... but in a pinch it allows
you to get the job done, which is your
number one priority. The nice thing about
this sort of arrangement is your colleague
will most likely send jobs your way when he
or she gets overloaded.
It is easy to say that advanced scheduling
and personal time management can ward off
the majority of these problems. But the
reality is... in the world of self
employment, deadlines can go from zero to
mind-boggling overnight.
The truth is, it's not a good idea on many
levels to turn jobs down; and so we tend to
take them all on.
With a little
resolve and these tricks up your sleeve,
you'll get the jobs done well.
